MEL! She's fab in this one and I love the backstory the novels and audios have given her (and I've only just caught on that her parents, Alan and Christine, have the same names as Maria Jackson's, assuming 'Chrissie' isn't her full name. Hm. Wonder if that was deliberate.)
Wow, didn't notice that! Weird!
Oh, man, what a cool connection. Fic fic fic? ;)
The whole story was good, but Mel was GREAT.
I've mentioned this before, but YEAH, I love how she always picks up a boyfriend. She is pretty and awesome and I love her and also the One Doctor.
Y'know, I think you'd like her audios with Six better than her episodes, I personally am much fonder of Catch-1782 or The Juggernauts than the Six'n'Mel serials.
She also has suitors on both these audios. *hearts*
I can't enjoy Catch-1782 because I'm constantly bothered by the present day stuff taking place in the present day and no one asking Mel where she's been for the last twenty years. Also why hasn't she aged. I was completely unable to handwave it away.
I know what you mean. I was sort of able to handwave it a little because her uncle is almost stereotypically Absent Minded, but yeah.
Clearly someone wasn't paying attention to timelines on that one.
I'm more bothered by the fact that her ancestor was a dude who drugged a strange woman, kept her locked in a room for months, and then tried to blackmail her into marriage (not to mention the incredibly creeptacular hints that he might have molested her when she was drugged out) but everyone kept saying what a GOOD MAN he was. Soooooooo uncool.
Despite the fact that Mel is totally awesome in it, I can't enjoy that audio. Blech.
On topic - One Doctor is positively marvelous in every way and I always adore Mel. ;-)
There is that as well. I never got past being bothered by the time line issues to worry about the story issues.
I love it when Ace picks up girlfriends and I love it when Mel picks up boyfriends. So awesome. :D
I'm sloooowly working my way through BF, but I have heard lots of good things about The Juggernauts, so will try it soon. I'm much better if I don't have to see Six's face (and also if he's being teased mercilessly, like he was in The One Doctor).
The One Doctor can do no wrong. It's just about the most perfect audio ever. Although I would not recommend it to someone not familiar with both Who and the characters (not that it was among the first five audios I listened to or anything).
her hilarious reminiscings about her family at Christmas,
That story is just brilliant. Also really explains Mel. A lot.
Also the Shelves of Infinity are the best pieces of furniture ever.
It was SUCH a Mel story! Really made me love her even more. It really was a fun story - not my favourite I've heard but up there, and enjoyable. :)
Mel in the audios = awesome. (I've only heard her in The One Doctor and The Wishing Beast. Must remedy that.)
Yay for Mel! I really like her in the audios. I just relistened to "The One Doctor" recently and remembered how freaking awesome it was. I love the shelves of Infinity and the robots too :)
I'll second "The Juggernauts" for Six and Mel, and also say I liked her in "Red" with Seven too. And "Bang-Bang-a-Boom" which was another total crackified one :)
I adore her in the audios. SO SO SO SO MUCH. It's amazing how BF has pretty much rehabilitated every dodgy old skool character, isn't it?
I need to re-order this one so I can hear it again. It was in the CD player of my boyfriend's car when it was totaled, and we never got it back. It always cheers me up.
